Thank you for being a part of Fremont’s Winter Shelter this year. Together we helped 438 individuals, from 4 months to 78 years old, receive hot evening meals, breakfasts and snacks, clean warm clothes, sleeping bags and cots during this (117 evening) winter shelter season. You were a part of a team of 129 generous volunteers who provided 4,737 bed nights of service and served 6,388 dinners to our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Whether you came once or multiple times you touched the lives of many of our most vulnerable residents and they appreciated that kindness. For those of you who came to serve for the first time, we hope you now have a better understanding of the growing number of residents in our community who find themselves without a place to call home. For those who joined us again during our fifth year of service, or multiple times this year, we could not have served so many in need without your help.
Your commitment to our community made the Fremont Winter Shelter a success!
We were delighted to see so many faith communities share their compassion for the less fortunate and local businesses step up to help as well. Special thanks to some of our individual volunteers, who donated gift cards for our participants who also helped us keep the space and grounds clean and orderly, for providing haircuts, for organizing a warm coat drive, for funding needed cots and bedding, for cooking hundreds of chickens to supplement our evening meals, when the numbers of hungry participants kept growing and growing, for delivering fresh fruit and breakfast items, for hand crocheting warm caps for participants when the weather was really cold. Your boundless generosity was clearly from the heart.
We are attaching a copy of our end of year Winter Shelter Report. We hope we can count on you to be advocates for the unsheltered in our community in the future. We also hope you will join us again next year.
